Extension of emergency aid; government evaluates the possibility

The emergency aid payment schedule was released in four installments for the months of March and July 2021, with installments ranging from R$ 150.00 to R$ 375.00, where the amount received depends exclusively on the beneficiary's family composition.

However, despite official information, government members are seeking a new extension of the aid from two to four months and, in addition, several other parliamentarians aim to expand the benefit, not only in the number of installments, but also in the amount of the benefit.

Motion for extension

Many beneficiaries believe that emergency aid may be extended until December and with installments of R$1,500.00.

However, the values and duration of the program do not come from the government, but rather through a bill that allows for a new payment until December 31st.

Bill 527/21 was authored by Congressman André Janones and, despite being a project that expands the payment of the benefit, it is not a measure that the government is preparing to release.

In fact, according to information obtained by Folha de São Paulo, the government has been studying a new proposed amendment to the Constitution to make the aid available for up to four months.

Rodrigo Pacheco, the president of the Senate, stated the following at an event in recent days:

"What falls to us now, as responsible public figures, within this social responsibility, but obviously without forgetting fiscal responsibility, is to identify whether these four months of emergency aid will be sufficient or whether we will need to extend it for another one or two months."

Therefore, the outlook is that if the government expands the aid, it will be paid at the same current amounts and it is likely that no new applications will be opened.
