While the government is releasing the payment of the fifth installment of emergency aid, beneficiaries run the risk of having to return the benefit.

After numerous complaints from people who received the money improperly, the government established that there will be a mandatory refund.

How will it work?

According to the text, the citizen has up to 6 months to reimburse the government. After this period, a daily fine of 0.33% will be charged up to a limit of 20% of the total amount. Even then, if payment is not registered, the individual's name will be published in the active debt list.

The measure aims to strengthen the transparency and social control of the program. According to the data, in 2020 alone, approximately R$ 54 million was spent on improper payments.

This means that around 7 million people were being included without meeting the requirements.
