The Emergency Benefit for the Preservation of Employment and Income (BEM) was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic and was instituted by a provisional measure in April. This emergency benefit had already undergone two other extensions.
On Wednesday (14), the decree was published in Official Gazette of the Union. The deadline was previously set for this October, however, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, had already announced this extension.
Thus, the measures are valid only for the duration of the state of public calamity. Therefore, the agreements will end on December 31, 2020.
“Given the current scenario of social and economic crisis, and with the persistence of restrictive social isolation measures, it is necessary to extend, once again, the maximum validity period of the agreements,” informs material released by the Planalto Palace last Tuesday (13).
This action will allow companies that are in a vulnerable situation to continue surviving this period and, in this way, preserve jobs and project a better economic recovery,” the government states.
How do I receive the BEM benefit?
Payment will be made via credit to an existing savings account in the worker's name or to a Social Digital account, automatically opened by Caixa Econômica Federal, when:
- If the account information was not provided at the time of registration;
- There is an impediment to crediting the indicated account;
- There are errors in the account information provided.
The Caixa social savings account can be accessed using the Caixa Tem app, available for Android and iOS phones. Remember that the BEM benefit will not be deposited in the name of a third party.
Amount of aid
The value of the emergency benefit corresponds to a percentage of the unemployment insurance that the worker would be entitled to in case of dismissal, varying between R$$ 261.25 and R$$ 1,813.03, according to the percentage of the agreed reduction.
The suspension of the contract provides for the payment of 100% of the Unemployment Insurance amount. The intermittent worker will receive an Emergency Benefit of R$ 600.00.
