What is Brazil Aid?

Auxílio Brasil is a Federal Government program that, initially, will work as a kind of substitute for Bolsa Família – income transfer program for needy families that was created in the mid-2000s.

Announced as a definitive program – with no end date – and with its official launch scheduled for November 17, Auxílio Brasil aims to provide greater assistance to the millions of families who lack financial means, living between poverty and extreme poverty.

Who will receive Auxílio Brasil?

According to the Federal Government, families that already benefited from Bolsa Família will now be automatically included to receive this new benefit.

Families living in extreme poverty – with a monthly income of up to R$ 100 per resident – and in poverty – with a monthly income between R$ 100.01 and R$ 200 per person – will be served by the new social program.

It is worth remembering that another criterion for receiving the benefit is having pregnant women or people under 21 years of age in the family composition.

According to the Ministry of Citizenship, more than 14 million Brazilian families are expected to benefit from the program in November.

In December, the estimate is that this number will increase even further, surpassing the mark of 17 million families served.

What types of benefits does Auxílio Brasil offer?

Auxílio Brasil will be divided into two distinct cores: the basic one – composed of three benefits – and a complementary one, composed of six.

In this first core – the basics – the benefits are as follows:

Early Childhood Benefit

Aimed at families with children under 3 years old. This option provides a benefit of R$130 per child, limited to five benefits per family.

Family Composition Benefit

For families with pregnant women or children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 – or 18 to 21 – enrolled in public schools.

In this scenario, the benefit will be R$ 65, also under the limit of five benefits per family.

Extreme Poverty Overcoming Benefit

This option will be paid to families whose monthly income, even after adding the benefits offered, is still below R$ 100 per person.

In addition to these, there are six other benefits available to families who meet certain conditions. These benefits are:

Sports School Grant, Junior Scientific Initiation Grant, Child Citizen Grant, Rural Productive Inclusion Grant, Urban Productive Inclusion Grant, and Transition Compensatory Benefit

When will Auxílio Brasil start being paid?

The date announced by the Federal Government is November 17th.

However, despite having this first official date announced, the rest of the payment schedule remains without further information – as does the schedule that will be adopted in 2022 for the payment of the benefit.

How will the Auxílio Brasil payment schedule work?

Although there is still no published schedule for 2022, the calendar adopted for payment of the benefit for the last two months of 2021 has already been defined.

In the same way as it was done in Bolsa Família, the benefit payment schedule was defined according to the final number of the Social Identification Number (NIS).

See what the announced schedule for these first installments looks like:

It is worth remembering that, although these first payments follow this pattern, it is still not known for sure whether payments in 2022 will follow the same dynamic.

If this proves to be an assertive format, it will most likely be the model adopted by Auxílio Brasil for next year.

How much does Auxílio Brasil pay?

Initially, the average benefit payment amount will be R$ 217.18 in November.

This represents an adjustment of almost 20% on the amount that used to be paid by Bolsa Família.

In addition to this format, there is also a government plan that aims to pay a minimum of R$ 400.00 to families living in poverty and extreme poverty.

This option is still being voted on and it is not known whether it will actually be adopted by the program or not.

How will citizens know if they will receive Auxílio Brasil?

According to the Ministry of Citizenship, the benefit release and available amount can be consulted using the old Bolsa Família app – available for Android and iOS.

In addition, citizens can also check the amount by contacting the Ministry of Citizenship's Relationship Center on 121.

How to register to receive Auxílio Brasil?

In addition to the records of the former Bolsa Família, Auxílio Brasil will also use the Single Registry as a source of beneficiaries.

Anyone who is not yet registered with CadÚnico and wishes to receive the benefit must go to the nearest Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) to register.
