What is Vale-Gás?

Vale-Gás is a government benefit passed on to low-income families living in poverty or extreme poverty.

It was created by Law No. 14,237, of November 19, 2021 and regulated by Decree No. 10,881, of December 2, 2021.

The main objective of this benefit is to reduce the impact of the price of cooking gas on the budgets of low-income families.

How does it work?

The Vale-Gás benefit is paid at a limit of one benefit per family. The price usually reflects the current cost of a gas cylinder.

For example, in 2021 the benefit was R$52.00, that is, 50% of the value of the cylinder at the time.

However, in 2022 the government started paying the full amount and it is currently R$112.00.

Families have access to the benefit in alternating months; it will be paid in October, but not in November; it will only be paid again in December.

In August, 5.6 million people received the Vale-Gás, however, the number does not represent even 50% of the families that should receive it.

Who is entitled to Gas Aid?

In practice, Vale-Gás should be paid to all families registered with CadÚnico and beneficiaries of Auxílio Brasil.

To do this, the family must have a monthly per capita income equal to or less than half the minimum wage.

In addition, the following families are included in the list of requirements to receive this benefit:

With members who receive BPC;
Registered with Cadúnico and with data updated in the last 24 months;
With lower income per person;
Largest quantity per person;
Beneficiaries of Brazil Aid;
Families with registration qualified by the manager through the use of verification data.

According to the government, mothers who are heads of households and women who are victims of domestic violence and are under monitoring will have priority in receiving this benefit.

How to receive the Gas Voucher?

You don't need to register to receive Vale-Gás. If your family meets some of the requirements, is registered with CadÚnico, and receives Auxílio Brasil, you are eligible for the benefit.

The selection of families is made automatically by the Ministry of Citizenship, eliminating the need for registration or request.

When is the benefit paid?

The calendar for this benefit follows the Auxílio Brasil calendar, meaning you will receive it with the Auxílio.

For example, families that receive gas assistance withdraw R$$712.00 every two months, instead of R$$600.00.

How is it deposited?

The benefit is deposited into the same account as the Auxílio Brasil. If the family does not have a digital or bank account, a digital social savings account will be automatically opened.

Like Auxílio Brasil, the gas bill is available for withdrawals and transactions for 120 days. In other words, this is the validity period of the benefit installments.

What is the value of the 2022 Gas Voucher?

Until December of this year, the value of the Gas Voucher was R$$112.00. However, starting in January 2023, it returns to R$50% of the full value of a cooking gas cylinder.

This is because paying 100% of the amount is part of a Provisional Measure that lasts until December. To date, there has been no law that leaves the full amount in effect.

Speaking of which, the Auxílio Brasil benefit will only be paid in the amount of R$600.00 until December, as it is also part of a MP.

However, from January 2023, the program will not end, it will simply return to the current value of R$400.00.

In fact, the Auxílio Brasil loan is carried out based on the current value.

Can I use the Gas Aid amount however I want?

It is recommended that the money be used for its intended purpose, that is, to buy a gas cylinder.

If you don't need it in the month you received it, keep it, you will certainly need it later.

However, once the benefit is credited to your account, you can use it as you wish, but be sure to do so wisely.

Can people who receive Auxilio Brasil receive Vale-Gás?

Yes. Receiving Auxílio Brasil does not invalidate your right to Vale-Gás. On the contrary, it is an important requirement to begin receiving it.

In fact, both benefits are paid on the same date, through the same channels, and can be withdrawn and transferred simultaneously.

Therefore, you don't need to worry, if you are a beneficiary of Auxílio Brasil, know that you have the RIGHT to receive the Gas Voucher.

Which month will the Gas Aid be paid?

If you received the benefit in August but didn't receive it in September, you might think it was canceled or something like that.

Actually, there's nothing wrong!

As previously mentioned, Vale-Gás is paid every two months, so it will only be paid in October and December.

How to receive the Gas Voucher: step by step

First, go to your city's CRAS (Brazilian Social Assistance Registry) to see if your family is eligible and register with CadÚnico.

Bring documents for all family members, the main ones being:

CPF;
Birth certificate (minors);
Voter Registration Card of the head of the family;
Proof of address;
School statement of children who study.

After registering with CadÚnico and Bolsa Família, you'll have to wait three months to begin receiving benefits. In many cases, this period is much longer.
