The Emergency Benefit for the Preservation of Employment and Income (BEm), as it is called, is equivalent to a portion of the unemployment insurance to which these workers would be entitled if they were fired and it is expected to reach more than 5 million workers throughout this month.
The payment of BEm is provided for by Provisional Measure 936 – the same one that allowed for the flexibility of relations between workers and employees during the new coronavirus pandemic.
And, according to the Ministry of Economy, it is carried out 30 days after the employer presents the Government with the agreement regarding the salary reduction signed with the employee.
Therefore, this payment of government aid began on Monday (04/05), as MP 936 completed 30 days of validity.
During this period, 5.4 million workers have already reached an agreement to suspend or reduce their salaries, according to the Ministry of Economy.
Furthermore, 1.9 million of these workers were affected by MP 936 over the first seven days of its validity, so these people began to receive the benefit on Monday (04/05).
How much is the government aid?
The value of the Good may vary between R$ 261.25 and R$ 1,813.03, since this benefit is calculated according to the amount that the worker would be entitled to receive with unemployment insurance in the event of dismissal.
Also according to MP 936, this benefit is equivalent to 100% of unemployment insurance when the employment contract is suspended.
However, when there is a reduction of 25% or 50% or even 70% in working hours, thus resulting in a proportional reduction in salary, the value of the benefit is equivalent to the same percentage of unemployment insurance.
Furthermore, it is worth highlighting that only intermittent workers are entitled to a truly fixed amount.
So, in this specific case, the amount is R$ 600.00 and goes directly into the worker's account.
How to track payment?
You can check the amount of government aid on the Ministry of Economy's service portal and through the app Digital Work Card.
In addition, it is still possible to search for information about the payment with Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal, as these institutions are responsible for depositing the value of the Good.
Banco do Brasil will make the benefit payment to workers who are already customers and the amount will be credited directly to a savings account with a variation of 73, which will be opened and automatically linked to the account indicated by the worker.
In turn, Caixa will credit the benefit amount to those who indicated a Caixa account to receive government aid and will also handle the payment of intermittent workers who did not provide a bank account in the salary reduction agreement.
Therefore, if this worker does not have any account, it will be necessary to open one Digital Savings Account for the amount to be deposited.
