This is because Caixa Econômica Federal plans to expand the Caixa Tem application to bring new features to the program.

This way, the app should now contain options for:

  • Microcredit;
  • Insurance;
  • Cards.

Currently, the application is used to pay emergency aid, the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) and the Emergency Benefit for Maintaining Employment and Income (BEM).

According to information released by Caixa itself, approximately 90 million digital social savings accounts were opened free of charge in 2020.

After all, the app was released to citizens registered for government social benefits during the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.

After the pandemic, Caixa will continue to keep these accounts open free of charge, as announced by the bank's president, Pedro Guimarães.

"All products will be maintained. All free products will remain free. And we will do more," he said.

According to the president, the “Caixa Tem” application is the digital bank for those with lower incomes, which is basically 80% of Caixa Econômica Federal's customer base.

For this reason, Caixa must continue to offer digital payments for social benefits, including Bolsa Família, which is currently only paid in person.

Therefore, among the new services offered by Caixa, through its Caixa Tem application, are:

  • Insurance;
  • Cards;
  • Microcredit offer.

The president announced that the introduction of microcredit into the Caixa Tem platform is still in the final stages.

However, according to him, amounts of “R$ 100.00, R$ 200.00 and R$ 300.00 will be released quickly, simply and completely digitally” for low-income Brazilians and informal workers who receive emergency aid.

Details about the insurance and card offerings have not yet been revealed.

Caixa Tem currently offers a digital debit card that can be used for online and in-person purchases. During the pandemic, 67.5 million of these virtual debit cards were issued by Caixa Econômica Federal.
