Family allowance of R$1,400,000 per child. See if you're eligible.

Informal workers, registered under the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), are entitled to several benefits. Some of these are unknown to employees, including resources that could help with monthly bills, such as the so-called family allowance, a benefit from the National Institute of Social Security.

Who can receive?

This is an INSS social security benefit paid to all low-income formal workers.

However, the requirements for receiving the resource must be met, which are:

  • Be formally employed with a salary of up to R$ 1,425.56 per month;

  • Have children under 14 years of age or with disabilities.

Even in the case of divorce or abandonment of a minor or person with a disability (PCD), the social security benefit is the right of the person who has custody of the child.

What is the amount of family allowance paid?

The benefit is calculated based on the share amount and the number of minor children or children/stepchildren who are financially dependent on the worker. See:

  • R$ 48.62: 1 child;
  • R$ 97.24: 2 children;
  • R$ 145.86: 3 children;
  • R$ 194.48: 4 children and etc.

If the worker is entitled to a salary and does not yet receive the benefit, they must submit the request directly to their employer. The same applies to domestic benefits.

In turn, freelance professionals must request the benefit from the body managing their work or union.

For those receiving social security benefits and retirees, the family allowance benefit must be applied for directly through the INSS website. The amount is deposited as a supplement to the retirement or benefit paid by the agency.
