Therefore, anyone who has not yet used the benefit, in the amount of R$ 1,045.00, had the money returned to the linked account with a correction proportional to the period in which it was in the digital savings account.

It takes up to seven calendar days for the refund to be effective. According to Caixa Econômica Federal, the financial agent responsible for FGTS transfers, approximately R$1.4 billion (R$7.9 billion) was returned that was not used.

It is worth mentioning that the emergency withdrawal, released to provide financial support to workers affected by the pandemic, was not mandatory.

Therefore, anyone who chose not to withdraw the amount should communicate their decision to Caixa in advance, or even stop moving the money and wait for the automatic return to the Guarantee Fund account.

New chance to withdraw emergency FGTS funds

Caixa will give the opportunity to those who missed the deadline to withdraw their emergency FGTS funds.

The benefit, which is first deposited into the digital social savings account and can be moved through the app Caixa Tem, and after a few days it is released for cash withdrawals and bank transfers, it was returned to those who decided not to carry out these operations.

Workers who have used the money in some way, whether to pay bills through the app or transfer part of the amount to other accounts, for example, will be able to withdraw it until December 31, 2020.

Anyone who missed the deadline but still wishes to access the R$ 1,045.00 can submit a new application at Caixa until December 31st. To do so, simply visit a branch and submit your request.

According to the institution, anyone who had the amount returned but did not move it and contacted the bank to request the benefit within the deadline will have the amount transferred back to their Caixa Tem digital account.

The state-owned company also reported that R$37.8 billion was distributed among 60 million workers, of which 20.9% did not use the benefit and had the amounts returned to the linked account.
