What is an INSS benefit?

The INSS benefit or social security benefits is the social security that replaces the income of the insured contributor when he loses his job for a specific reason.

In other words, you lose your ability to work, for example, due to illness, old age, maternity or an accident at work.

The benefit is paid in cash monthly to the beneficiary, and the contribution is made throughout the contributor's working life.

In return for these contributions made to the General Social Security Regime, the INSS offers monthly benefits that can be, for example, retirement, sickness benefits, maternity pay, etc.

Dependents of these beneficiaries are also entitled to receive payments, in this case, as pensions.

What are the existing INSS benefit alternatives?

There are different types of social security benefits, each of them meets different situations or conditions, the main ones are:

  • Accident benefit;
  • Sickness benefit;
  • Survivor's pension;
  • Special retirement, due to age, disability or length of contribution;
  • welfare benefit;
  • Maternity pay.

What is the INSS amount on the salary?

Contributions to the INSS are mandatory for formally employed workers and domestic employees. Individual taxpayers and temporary workers must also contribute.

In other words, the contribution is mandatory for all workers who have paid employment, even if they do not have an employment relationship.

In Brazil, there are four main INSS contribution bands for workers under the CLT regime. In this case, they are progressive, with the minimum rate being 7.5%.

However, workers who have a salary above, for example, R%7,087.22, need to contribute more than 14% of their earnings.

The full contribution rate is: 7.5%, 9%, 12% and 14%. The percentage is applied according to the contributor's salary.

The insured can check the value of the adjusted benefit in two ways: through the app or website. My INSS.

First, you need to create an account; a simple registration process involves providing the requested personal information and answering a few questions that will appear on the screen.

The questions are related to your work history, so have your work card and retirement documents on hand.

Don't forget to write down the generated password, as you will need it if you want to access the site later.

If you're already registered on the website or app, simply enter your CPF and the password you created. Remember that even if you access the app or website, your details and account will remain the same.

Once on the Meu INSS portal, you will see that on the home screen there are some services that can be consulted, including some options that can even be consulted without passwords, but this is not the case with the payment statement.

In fact, to access the value of your benefit, look for the “Payment statement” field.

What is the new INSS benefit ceiling for 2022?

The minimum wage was adjusted by 10,16%, so the value is now R$1,212.00. This also benefits INSS retirees and pensioners, as the INSS benefit ceiling goes from R$6,433.57 to R$7,087.22.

For beneficiaries who receive up to a minimum wage, the benefit amount was also adjusted and the correction percentage was still higher than the INPC, therefore, the provisional measure set the amount of R$1,121.00 for the year 2022.

The new ceiling was valid from February 1st, so it is now possible to check the adjusted value, as shown in the topic above.

However, the value of 10.16% of the adjustment of the new INSS benefit ceiling only includes insured persons who were already receiving payment on the first of January last year.

Beneficiaries who started receiving payments from the first day of February will have a lower adjustment percentage, because they did not receive 12 full months of payments.

The percentage is decreasing, according to the month in which you started receiving, the lowest percentage is for those who started receiving in December 2021, in which case, the adjustment is only 0.73%.

Adjustments for this group will be proportional to the months of benefit payment.

Conclusion

Insured individuals who receive less than the minimum wage began receiving the adjusted amount between January 25 and February 7.

Insured individuals who earn more than the minimum wage began receiving payments between February 1st and 7th.
