In a letter signed by the company's general director in Brazil, Claudia Woods, the company confirmed that it will provide financial assistance policy coverage for partner drivers and that it will even reimburse for masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer.
On March 24, Uber announced that it would offer financial assistance for a period of 14 days to its drivers and delivery people who were diagnosed with Covid-19, or who had been asked to quarantine by a professional.
So, now the company has decided to expand the plan, extending it to drivers who are in the risk group.
Therefore, according to the statement, elderly people and people with pre-existing health conditions, such as bronchitis, diabetes or respiratory problems, will be able to request assistance upon presentation of a medical certificate.
Regarding the amount paid by Uber, it will be determined taking into account the partner's average earnings in the last 3 months prior to March 6th.
Therefore, if the driver has used the app for a shorter period of time than this, the average will be established according to the earnings he/she has had since the trip until March 6, 2020.
Additionally, Uber also announced that its partners will be able to use the remote medical guidance service from Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, called Einstein Conecta.
This service operates 24/7 and provides medical guidance via video conference. The service can be used for an additional fee through the Vale Saúde Sempre package.
The Voucher also offers discounts on medical consultations in private healthcare networks and on more than 3,000 types of imaging and laboratory tests.
Not to mention that the program also grants 20% in discounts on medicines in pharmacies that are accredited to it.
It is common for the program to charge an annual fee of R$ 358.80 per year for each linked worker, but, according to Uber, workers will not have to pay anything to access this resource.
Claudia Woods also stated that the current scenario remains dynamic, so more details about the app's policies will be announced throughout the week.
The director also thanked the drivers who are working and helping to “keep what is essential moving.”
