New emergency aid will be allocated to more than 40 million people.

The resumption of emergency aid payments is expected to reach up to 40 million people. This number represents an increase of 8 million compared to what was previously determined in February by Paulo Guedes, the Minister of Economy.

However, this is a smaller number than the aid provided in 2020, which benefited approximately 67 million Brazilians according to data released by Folha de São Paulo.

The economics team aims to filter the benefit to ensure it reaches the low-income population. It is not yet known whether this aid will be destined for beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program or only for informal workers who are currently unemployed and not receiving any type of social assistance program.

According to what was communicated by Paulo Guedes on Thursday (11), the amounts paid should be between R$ 200.00 and R$ 250.00 for about 3 to 4 months.

So, payments should begin in March. The economic team has also been studying ways to remove the double benefit for single mothers and heads of household, as happened in 2020.

Payments can be made in March, April, May, and June.

The emergency aid for 2021 will cost between R$1$ 8 billion and R$1$ 12.5 billion per month.

Therefore, the government will have to pay between R$ 24 billion and R$ 50 billion for the benefit during the months it is expected to be released this year. In 2020, the estimated cost was R$ 321 billion.

According to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, there is an expectation, not only from the people but also from Congress, that the emergency aid will be approved. Furthermore, it is expected that the amount will be sufficient to reach the largest number of Brazilians, and that the payment dates are projected for March, April, May, and perhaps June.
