Unemployment insurance, a benefit paid to workers, may undergo changes in the future. The government has been studying ways to implement a new calculation rule for the insurance.

Today, when dismissed without just cause, the worker receives 3 to 5 installments of a fixed value.
According to the proposal currently under development, workers will receive installments with a reduction of 10% each month, with the requirement that at least one minimum wage be paid, which is currently R$ 1,100.00.
This progressive decrease will be added to the initial benefit. Therefore, if the beneficiary is entitled to 5 installments of R$ 1,500.00, for example, they will receive this full amount in the first month. Then, R$ 1,350.00 in the second, R$ 1,200.00 in the third, and R$ 1,100.00 in the last few months, as this is the minimum unemployment insurance amount.
If this worker needs unemployment insurance again in the future, the calculation is generated: they start by receiving the full amount, and then a reduction of 10% per month is applied.
According to the government, this change would only affect a portion of the beneficiaries, since the majority of them receive the equivalent of a minimum wage. Therefore, the progressive reduction would not apply to them.
Big changes
The bill that proposes changes to unemployment insurance has the main goal of ending fraud within the system.
This is because, according to the government's diagnosis, it is common today for workers to remain in the informal sector and postpone formal employment in order to continue receiving benefits.
