In July 2019, the President signed a provisional measure (MP) that requested the expansion of withdrawals from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) and the distribution of all profits to beneficiaries.
In summary, in 2020, unit holders have already received 100% of the result corresponding to the distribution, totaling R$12.2 billion. Payment is made until August 31st.
According to the President of the Board of Trustees of the Guarantee Fund, the distribution of 100% of the FGTS 2020 profit to workers ensured an increase in the gains for the account holder. Therefore, the Fund's profitability became better than most investments.
Previously, all the proceeds went to the government. However, in 2017, 50% of that amount began to be allocated to workers. The deposited money is used for investment in public projects. Therefore, it finances basic sanitation, infrastructure, and housing works.
Next, you will learn how the distribution works and how to find out if your 2020 FGTS profit is already available in your account.
FGTS Profit 2020: How does the distribution work?
Firstly, the distribution of FGTS (Brazilian Severance Indemnity Fund) profits in 2020 is done through monetary correction and interest. The money transferred to the worker's account is calculated individually and proportionally to the balance that was in the account since December 31st of the previous year.
In other words, beneficiaries with larger account balances will receive more. The balance will now be subject to further monthly deposits from employers until the withdrawal date. An additional sum will be added to this amount, including the 3% adjustment plus the annual reference rate (TR).
The final balance resulting from the FGTS (Brazilian Severance Indemnity Fund) promises to exceed the return on a savings account. The calculation takes into account the worker's balance on the date of the simulation. According to the FGTS law, the account balance yields 3% per year. Therefore, the return would be higher due to the distribution of the result among the account holders.
How do I know if the distribution amount is available in my account?
To find out if the FGTS distribution amount is available in your account, you need to access the website of... Federal Savings Bank and register by providing your PIS/NIS/NIT number. Another possibility is to access it through the new FGTS app on your cell phone.
