FGTS profit distribution could reach R$$ 8.23 in 2021
In 2019, the Ministry of Economy distributed 100% of the profit achieved by the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) in 2018 among Brazilians with linked accounts. In 2020, the percentage distributed fell and reached only 66% of the profit achieved.

In this year's case, according to information released by Monitor Mercantil, the FGTS council – made up of businesspeople, workers and the government itself – has until August 31 to decide the percentage that will be distributed in 2021.
If the same thing happens as in 2019, formal workers will be entitled to a portion of R$1.4 billion, which will be deposited directly into the Fund's account.
"When the total profit doesn't go to the worker's account, it becomes part of the Guarantee Fund's equity, but in a time of high unemployment and less than optimistic forecasts for economic recovery, it's always good for workers to have extra resources in their FGTS account," says Clóvis Scherer, an economist at Dieese.
According to the economist, interest received from loans, excluding expenses, are results that can be distributed to the worker.
The distribution of FGTS profits began in 2017, using the income obtained in 2016. At the time, the FGTS, which always had low income, achieved remuneration of 5,11% plus 1,93% in distribution.
