Retirees from the National Social Security Institute (INSS) may receive an increase in their benefits as early as 2020.

This is because the local authority announced an increase of 25% in the value of the disability pension, a change related to the caregiver allowance.

The supplement was created as a way to complement the income of beneficiaries.

Thus, the extra benefit aims to cover expenses related to companionship/caregiving services, which will assist the insured person in carrying out their routine activities. Such as, for example, preparing food, showering, among others.

It's worth mentioning that the person providing assistance can be a family member and doesn't necessarily have to be a nurse or caregiver.

How do I request an increase for 25%?

The benefit is usually granted during the retirement process. However, insured individuals who are already retired due to disability and do not receive this additional amount can request its inclusion through the Meu INSS app or by calling 135.

For this, it will be necessary to present some documents to the INSS, such as:

  • CPF;
  • Photo identification document of the representative or attorney;
  • Legal representation document or power of attorney;
  • Medical documents proving that the insured person is dependent on third parties.

Benefit review

Those receiving disability retirement benefits undergo a medical examination by the INSS (Brazilian National Social Security Institute) within two years.

During the benefit verification process, it will be determined whether the individual remains disabled or can be rehabilitated, with the goal of returning to their activities.

In the case of insured individuals over 60 years of age and over 55 years of age with more than 15 years of disability benefits, they remain exempt from the review.
