INSS proof of life through facial biometrics. Understand how it works

The National Social Security Institute (INSS) will allow proof of life to be performed using facial biometrics. Approximately 500,000 policyholders across Brazil will participate in the first phase of the pilot project. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Dataprev, the Ministry of Economy, and the Secretariat of Digital Government (SGC).

The INSS will contact beneficiaries in the coming days through Meu INSS, email, or by dialing 135. Most of this group is made up of insured individuals who have already completed the proof of life test, so it is essential that they pay attention to this contact.

Easy biometrics will utilize the databases of Denatran (National Department of Transit) and the Superior Electoral Court. Thus, the first to be registered will be those who already have a driver's license or voter registration card.

Proof of life by biometrics thus eliminates the need to go to a bank branch to submit documentation, despite this being a pilot project.

The procedure is required for those who receive the benefit via checking account, savings account, or magnetic card. Annually, beneficiaries must prove they are alive to avoid undue payments and fraud.

How will proof of life work?

The procedure will be carried out through facial recognition in the Meu INSS app or the Digital Government app (meu.gov.br), using the cell phone camera.

Therefore, it will be sufficient to determine whether, in fact, the citizen is the same one registered to receive the benefit.

The pilot project will initially only be available to a select few users. Therefore, to register, you must receive a message from the INSS itself.

You need to submit a photo, and the app will perform facial recognition. The app will then verify that the person is indeed the registered beneficiary.
