Bolsa Família beneficiaries may take out a payroll loan
The Bolsa Família reform announced by the Federal Government is expected to bring significant news for program beneficiaries. The Provisional Measure (MP) addresses the changes, which provides for the release of a line of credit for loan agreements.

This means that policyholders will be able to apply for a payroll loan with an amount corresponding to up to 30% of the benefit. The proposal is an attempt by President Jair Bolsonaro to boost his reelection bid in 2022.
The plan is for the credit line to be available on the Caixa Tem app. Installments will be paid via a direct discount on the social benefit amount.
According to information released by the Ministry of Citizenship, anyone who has been excluded from Bolsa Família will be required to pay the amount owed, or risk becoming a negative creditor.
The payroll loan must be announced together with the other updated benefit rules.
Family Allowance
The program distributes benefits ranging from R$ 89.00 to R$ 375.00, considering that some families have temporarily migrated to emergency aid. See the amounts paid:
- Families in extreme poverty: R$ 89.00;
- Families in poverty or extreme poverty composed of pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and adolescents aged 0 to 15: R$ 41.00 (up to 5 families, totaling R$ 205.00);
- Families in poverty or extreme poverty composed of adolescents between 16 and 17 years old: R$ 48 (up to 2 per family, totaling R$ 96);
- Families in extreme poverty: value calculated according to family income.
The government's proposal is to increase the average value of the program to R$ 250.00, but President Jair Bolsonaro requested an increase to R$ 300.00.
