INSS 13th salary advance confirmed

Economy Minister Paulo Guedes confirmed that the government will indeed advance the 13th-month payment for INSS retirees. The measure was taken earlier this year by Jair Bolsonaro's team as one way to guarantee financial assistance to the elderly, who are the most vulnerable population at this time.

The plan to advance the thirteenth salary, known as the Christmas bonus, was already implemented in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. So, it will happen the same way in 2021, as Paulo Guedes stated.

The government's measure remains one of the non-fiscal measures to revive the economy once again at the beginning of the year. However, it will only take effect after the approval of the General Budget of the Union, scheduled to be voted on in Congress in March.

After announcing the resumption of emergency aid that will benefit more than 40 million people, Brazil's economic team is maintaining other solutions, such as the advance payment of the PIS/PASEP salary bonus, a new round of FGTS withdrawals, and the advance payment of the 13th-month salary for retirees.

In addition, the ministry is also considering resuming BEm (Emergency Benefit for the Preservation of Employment and Income), which last year saw more than 19 million contracts suspended or wages and working hours reduced.

Earlier in 2021, the president's advisors confirmed the advance payment of the 13th-month salary for retirees. According to reports, the plan is to pay the bonus in April, following approval of the federal budget, which is scheduled to be voted on in Congress in March.

The Federal Government's position to resume benefits came after evaluating the economic scenario and the serious health crisis of 2021.
