Will the 14th salary be paid in 2021?

At the end of last year, Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS) submitted an urgent request for Bill (PL) 3,657/2020, which provides for the creation of the 14th emergency salary, to be approved as soon as possible.

According to the text, an extra installment will be granted to pay policyholders of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) during the new coronavirus pandemic.

The proposal, presented by the Human Rights and Participatory Legislation Committee, received a favorable vote from Paim. According to the data, approximately 35 million INSS retirees and pensioners, and around 80% of this group, receive only the minimum wage per month.

"The 14th salary, besides helping retirees and those in the risk group, will also serve as an injection of resources into the economy. Among Brazilian municipalities, 64% depend on the income of INSS beneficiaries. The 14th salary will represent approximately R$$ 42 billion in new money for local businesses and municipalities, generating jobs and income, generating taxes, improving quality of life, boosting the local economy, and strengthening everyone's lives. We will have more jobs to contribute to the country's resumption of growth," confirmed the senator.
