The decision was announced through the publication of Decree 10.470 in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), after approval from the Federal Government.

The text extends for 6 months (180 days) the right of business owners to enter into or renew agreements with employees during the coronavirus pandemic.

The benefit amount is paid and the sum is R$ 261.25 and R$ 1,813.01 per month.

Furthermore, employees already enrolled in the program may be added within the new timeframe. The aid is offered to formal workers, who have a signed employment contract, and who have had their employment contract suspended or their working hours and salary reduced.

Who is eligible to receive the BEm benefit?

Formal workers with reduced working hours and/or salary, as well as those whose employment contracts have been suspended, can apply for the BEm (Emergency Employment Benefit).

In addition to these, intermittent employees, who do not have a fixed work schedule or salary, but who had a formal employment contract on April 1, 2020, are entitled to the benefit.

How is the value of the BEm determined?

The value of the BEm (Emergency Employment Benefit) is calculated based on the unemployment insurance that the worker would be entitled to if they were dismissed without just cause.

In this case, reductions range from 25%, 50%, or 70%, since in the case of suspended contracts, the Federal Government pays the amount of 100% of unemployment insurance.

However, if the company reported gross revenue exceeding R$ 4.8 million in 2019, the maximum transfer limit is up to 70%.

For employees in the intermittent category, the BEm value is R$ 600.00.

It's worth mentioning that the funds are credited every month, as long as the agreement with the company exists.

How is payment made?

The BEm (Emergency Benefit) can be deposited into any bank account, as long as it is not a salary account. At the time of the agreement, the account holder is chosen to receive the funds.

Account holders at Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal receive the payment automatically into their accounts.

For those who have accounts at other banks, Banco do Brasil (BB) is responsible for the transfer.
